Arterburn Trial Set For August 7

Bradly William Arterburn

Oskaloosa, Iowa – One of the most high profile cases in recent memory will go to trial later this summer.

Bradley Arterburn is accused in the stabbing death of 58-year-old Robert Henry Horovitz on the night of June 19th, 2011 at the residence he shared with his mother.

Arterburn’s proceedings had been suspended while mental evaluations were conducted, and the hearing Monday submitted those findings to the court, where they were sealed on the basis that they could contaminate a jury pool and also could possibly involve people not associated with the criminal proceedings.

Both the state prosecution and defense were in agreement with the sealing of the document, and District Court Judge Scieszinski then approved the motion.

Judge Scieszinski then lifted the suspended proceedings set in place by Judge Gookin so the mental evaluations could proceed. With the suspension lifted, all parties agreed to an August 7, 2012 trail date, with a pre-trial hearing set for July 23, 2012. Both will start at 9:30 am.

Arterburn is facing a 1st Degree Murder charge, which is a Class “A” Felony and is punishable by life in prison. He is currently being held without bond.

A criminal charge is merely a criminal charge and not an indication of guilt. All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
