Dennis Lloyd Selby
Dennis Lloyd Selby, 61, of Oskaloosa died Friday, May 4, 2012, at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born Wednesday, February 21, 1951, in Iowa City, the son of Lloyd and Shirley Arthur Selby. Denny graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1968. Following school, he worked for the old Ideal Manufacturing Company in Oskaloosa before going to work for Kenny Den Hartog at Den Hartog Meats and Farms. While working for the Den Hartogs, he met Linda Den Hartog and they were married on November 11, 1975 at the Methodist Church in Eddyville. While working for Kenny they grew very close and Denny looked to Kenny as a father after his dad passed away when he was young. He then drove semi for DRS, National Bi-Products and lastly, he drove for Circle B for several years. He loved everything that had a motor and wheels. He enjoyed collecting die cast cars and semis, building model semi’s, spending time with his family, going to the races and helping work on his son-in-law’s race car, helping his son-in-law, Bill, on the farm, blading snow, and will forever be known as a prankster with an amazing sense of humor. He loved going to watch his wife Linda and his 3 daughters show their horses. He was a union member through National Bi-Products.
His family includes his wife: Linda Selby of Oskaloosa; three daughters: Clarissa (& Todd) Reitzler of Grinnell, Nicole (& Bill) Louderback of Drakesville and Krystal (& Todd Phillips) Selby of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren: Jaxson Reitzler, Taylor Louderback and Dalana Phillips; his mother and step-father: Shirley (& Dale) Selby-Robbins of Oskaloosa; a sister: Linda (& Kenny) Rhoten of Monroe and his father and mother-in-law: Kenny (& Alberta) Den Hartog of Oskaloosa.
He was preceded in death by his father: Lloyd Selby.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Divide Cemetery, north of Albia. Visitation will begin Tuesday after 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 6 – 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Dennis Selby Memorial Fund.
