Optimist Club Recognizes Local Law Enforcement

Optimist Club members and Oskaloosa PD gather for a quick photo after their dinner of pizza

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Law Day is traditionally May 1st, and coincides with May Day as a balance. Dwight D. Eisenhower first proclaimed the day back in 1958, and chose the day to help balance populist tones that originated with May Day, and workers’ struggles associated with that day.

The Optimist Club of Oskaloosa honored local law enforcement with a dinner of pizza in recognition of their service. Officers met in the Emergency Operations Center Training Room for their dinner starting at 6:00 p.m.

Oskaloosa Police Chief Jake McGee said, “We certainly appreciate it. This is the second year that the Optimists have sponsored this. We have a good attendance every year and we certainly appreciate it.”
