OHS Choir To Perform With Lowe Family Tonight

The Oskaloosa High School Choir practices at George Daily Auditorium with The Lowe Family

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The stage is set, and the last minute touches are going into place for the 7:30 performance of The Lowe Family.

The group was formally based out of Branson, Missouri, but they found their way to Oskaloosa early Thursday morning.

Oskaloosa Vocal and Choir Director Chris Weinreich along with Doug Lowe helped coach the choir students for the performance with the group this evening, having to cut practice short for students to sprint off to their respective buses.

Doug Lowe said that the group has an outreach program, “and try to involve any of the students in the community. It allows the community to see, wow, we’ve got some talent here. Probably more than what we’ve recognized, that they can participate in a professional show. It’s just a way for us to showcase the talent here in the community.”

Lowe was impressed with the preparation Weinreich had done with the students, “He had them totally prepared. The choirs here are just really superb. We worked quickly, got them on stage and what you’ll see tonight is an opportunity for blending all of their training with a professional show.”

Chris Weinreich said, “It’s a great experience for the kids. What’s neat, more than anything else, is the ongoing relationship the music department in Oskaloosa has with George Daily. Weinreich pointed towards the many opportunities in the last couple of years for students to interact with productions such as The Dallas Brass, Rita Coolidge, Simon Estes. “Phenominal experiences last year,” Weinreich said over the opportunities his students have had recently, and of course  the wonderful experience of working with The Lowe Family this evening.

Tickets are still available at George Daily Auditorium for tonight’s 7:30 pm performance.
