eCycling Event Once Again A Huge Success
Oskaoosa, Iowa – The weather on Saturday wasn’t the best, but the rain held off long enough for MCG to, once again, have a banner day collecting electronic waste.
Scott Ewing, with MCG, was one of two people helping to coordinate the activity Saturday. Not knowing what to expect from the day, was the thought from Ewing. He said that the nearly 30 volunteers who came out to help kept busy all morning long. Rarely was there a point when at least one person or car wasn’t in line to dispose of some old printer or TV. By 11:30, they were on pace to match last years pile, which filled up two and a half semi trailers.
The Tyler Sash Foundation, members of the 4-H club, and the Trees Forever program all pitched in to help. The 4-H club was using the opportunity to raise some extra money for their organization and Trees Forever was handing out 150 saplings of Red Maple, Crab Apple and White Oak.
The boxes and gaylords were all provided by local recyclers as well as the trailers to help haul away the scrap. The scrap will then be ground into bits, having any precious metals and with other valuable materials recovered, while the rest is recycled and disposed of properly.
