Oskaloosa, Iowa – The weather might not have been the best on Saturday morning, but the turnout was strong, and until noon, the stream of people was nearly non-stop.
2012 Relay for Life Team Tracy put together a garage sale/bake sale for the cause. At the end of the day they were able to raise $550.00, making all their hard work well worth it. They also sold 7 t-shirts, with a portion of that money also going towards the team.
Team member Amanda Russell said, “We created this team to support Tracy Johnson in her fight with brain cancer. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 Brain Cancer in August. They were able to remove most of the tumor and is currently going to chemo.”
Amanda went on to say, “Tracy is a very important person to the lives of everyone on the team. She is like a second mom to me. I have known her since I was 3.”
Amanda said that this was something they could do to show their support for her and to help her in her fight with cancer.
The 2012 Relay For Life of Mahaska County has been scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2012, from noon to midnight.
Other events recently in support for Relay for Life has been the Ladies Night Out at the end of March, as well as a silent auction held by the Oskaloosa Student Council at the Osky Relays on April 14th.
