PELLA —The steelpan drummers of the Flying Pans Steel Drum Band will bring their unique sound and repertoire to Douwstra Auditorium March 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The ensemble will be joined by guest musician Chris Wabich. A versatile drum set talent, Wabich was recently featured on Frank Zappa’s stage production of “Joe’s Garage.”

The Flying Pans perform on steel pan drums, which originated in Trinidad and Tobago. Including students from many different majors, the band performs diverse styles of music, from traditional calypso, soca and reggae to Latin, disco, techno and rock and roll. They often perform at Central and around the state and have recorded several CDs of their performances, including “Sanpana,” “Aerosteel,” and “Caribbean Rhapsody.”

The band is directed by Stan Dahl, assistant professor of music. For more information, contact Debbie Abel at 641-628-5236 or abeld@central.edu.
