E.B.H.S. JAZZ BAND WINS DISTRICTS
On Saturday, March 3rd, the Eddyville / Blakesburg High School Jazz Band placed 1st in class 2A at the South East Iowa Bandmasters Association District Jazz Contest in Iowa City. The 1st and 2nd place bands from each class qualify for the Iowa Jazz Championships, which is held in Des Moines on April 10th. This is the 26th year in a row that the E.B.H.S. Jazz Band has qualified for the Jazz Championships. Eddyville / Blakesburg placed 1st ahead of Louisa – Muscatine, Mid-Prairie, West Branch, West Liberty, West Burlington, Highland, Davis County, North Cedar, and Columbus Junction, in class 2A competition.
Several students received an Outstanding Soloist Award for their solo performances. Outstanding Soloist Awards went to: Jackson Voyles; bass, Tanner Powers; vibes, Jered Abernathy; guitar, Anna Haselhuhn; trumpet, Jessica Jones; flute, Brooke Lunsford; alto sax, Nate McGinnis; drums, Heath Rice; trombone, and Jacob Lane; Tenor Sax. Tanner Powers was honored by being selected as the Outstanding Soloist of the Day in Class 2A competition. The band is directed by Joe Overton.
The EBHS Jazz Band will perform in concert with the junior high jazz band on Thursday March 15th. The band will also be appearing at the Night of Jazz Concert on Friday March 30th at the Daily Auditorium with several other area jazz bands.
