4×4 Breaks Record Again, Eclipses Four-Minute Barrier in Prelims

William Penn Women's Athletics

Geneva, Ohio–The Lady Statesmen 4×400-meter relay team was more than ready Thursday, but unfortunately their best effort of the year came up just a bit shy of helping the squad advance to the next round at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships Thursday.

The relay of Fatoumata Samura (Fr., Bronx, N.Y., Dewitt Clinton HS), Alexis Swinney (Fr., McKinney, Texas, McKinney HS), Shaniece Dishmon (Fr., Harvey, Ill., Thornton Township HS), and Sade Myers (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS) once again broke their own school record.

They did so with a time of 3:59.12, placing 13th out of the 17 competing teams. Indiana Tech paced the field with a time of 3:46.97, while Dordt posted the final qualifying time at 3:56.32.

The mark demolishes the old time of 4:04.40. The season began with the record standing at 4:32.16, but the ladies improved dramatically throughout the indoor schedule, setting new marks each of the five times they ran the event.

William Penn will be represented in four more events Friday. Gabriel Green (Jr., Anniston, Anniston HS) will sprint in the men’s 60 and 200-meter hurdles, while Jalen Wilson (Fr., Desoto, Texas, Duncanville HS) will take on the field in the men’s long jump. Audre Harris (So., Junction City, Kan., Allen CC) will compete in the women’s 60-meter hurdles.
