Mahaska County Board Of Supervisors End CDL Pre-trip Testing

The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, February 6, 2012

Oskaloosa, Iowa – With several items on their agenda, the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors got right to work at their scheduled Monday meeting.

Sone Scott, Mahaska County Treasurer looked to add a payroll change for temporary help during the tax season for a 3 week period.  The board approved the motion.

According to Scott, new state regulations concerning the testing of CDL’s (Commercial Drivers License) says there is currently not enough space to do the backing, parking, and maneuvers part of the testing. “With the new driving routes, we do not have all the things we need such as left hand turns, right hand turns”, as well as other new portions of the testing that the county does not have Scott said.

Scott said that a total of 7 county residents were issued licenses in the past year, and Scott recommends that as of April 1, 2012 that they would no longer conduct the CDL testing, such as pre-trip and the drive test. The county only made a total of $49 in 2011.

Scott says they can still accommodate the written test, and can also issue the license. They will still be doing car and motorcycle drive tests along with D1 chauffeur license tests, which are any tractor-trailer semi combinations operating within 150 miles of the farm while transporting farm markets to and from market as well as farms.

D2 chauffeur: any truck with a gross vehicle weight 16,100 pounds and 26,000 lbs, and would commonly known as vehicles such as Schwanns, UPS, and lumber trucks.

D3 chauffeur: passenger vehicles with less than 16 passengers, including the driver.

Also approved were liquor permits for Iowa Raceway, Inc. (Eddyville Drag Strip) and for the Pheasants Forever banquet.

New carpet quotes were approved for the 3rd floor conference room at the courthouse, as well as for the control room and booking portions of the jail.

The board approved opening the courthouse restrooms for the Rollin’ Oldies Car Club show that will be held July 28, 2012.

The board approved the 41 cent per capita support for all residents living in non-incorporated areas of the county to the Area 15 Regional Planning Commission.
