Question of the Week: Would you support a combined County/City Government?

Osky News

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Last time we asked you if you planned on caucusing, 56% of people responding said they planned on attending their caucus.

This week we turn to a story we reported on earlier this week in which an idea has been raised of combining Mahaska County and the City of Oskaloosa into a single government entity.

There are many possible benefits to such a combined government, but one of the major points is a reduced cost to the taxpayer, a more streamlined government that is better able to respond to the needs of the people.

Others point to a rising cost of the government after the initial savings. It’s been noted by some that a county government and a city government serve two different sets of needs and combining the two offers little in the way of savings and streamlining. Also, problems with employees and a possible problem of merging offices can lead to problems.

Now, it’s your turn to decide. Vote in our online poll. The poll will be open until Sunday when we will close the poll and release the final voting results. If you have any questions, please e-mail us at info@oskynews.org or visit us on our Facebook Page. We would also like to remind you to vote in our Presidential preference poll on our Facebook Page.
