Burgey #1, Statesmen #18 in Final Poll Before Holiday Break

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–Eric Burgey (So., Easton, Pa., Easton HS) is not giving the national voters any reason not to put him at the top as the NAIA released its third regular season wrestling rating today.

Burgey, who has four falls this year (10-0 overall), remains #1 at 149 pounds.

The sophomore helped William Penn to a tie for 18th place in the national poll with 20 points.

Great Falls (Mont.) takes over the top spot with 106 points, while Grand View is now second with 96 points. Southern Oregon, Oklahoma City, and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) round out the top five.

Fellow Central Qualifying Group programs Missouri Valley (#9) and Baker (#10) are also in the top 20.

The Statesmen are eighth in the Central Group rating with 39 points, while defending champion Grand View remains first with 189.5 points. Baker is again second with 135.5 points and Oklahoma City is a close third with 132 points.

Burgey tops the 149-pound group, while only two other athletes are in the poll. Kyle Soderblom (Fr., Newton, Lynnville-Sully HS) is fifth at 184 pounds and Chris Diaz (Sr., Montrose, Colo., Olathe HS) is sixth at 197 pounds.
