William Penn Wins Silver in Las Vegas Tier 1 Tourney
Las Vegas, Nev.–Another tournament, another high finish for the increasingly-impressive Statesmen bowling team as it competed at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout Sunday and Monday.
William Penn finished second out of 38 varsity squads at the Tier 1 event with 11,803 pins (six regular games, 16 Bakers).
The navy and gold started Baker play in third and caught one team by scoring 4,062 pins, but could not surpass champion Midland (Neb.), who finished with 12,354 pins (4,600 Baker pins).
In six events, the Statesmen have two firsts, three seconds, and one third to their credit.
Mitch Katic of Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) was the top bowler, owning a 240.3 average in six games (1,442 pins).
Cameron Foster (So., West Jordan, Utah, West Jordan HS) guided William Penn by placing seventh with a 230.3 average (1,382 pins). Sean Rangel (Jr., Omaha, Neb., Bellevue East HS), in 15th at 219.0, and Alex Hoskins (Fr., Pocatello, Idaho, Century HS), in 16th at 218.7, also finished in the top 20.
Drew Balta (So., Walford, Cedar Rapids Prairie HS) owned a 213.0 clip as the top four rollers all competed in six games. Nick Atkinson (Sr., Frostburg, Md., Vincennes CC) posted a 165.7 mark in five games and Brandon Brooks (Sr., Sigourney, Vincennes CC) knocked down 181 pins in his lone contest.
