Dance Team Volunteers Around Oskaloosa Community This Fall
Oskaloosa–As part of the NAIA’s Champions of Character initiative, the William Penn University dance team volunteered its time to work with a few groups this fall.
The team paired up with New Hope Inc. in providing after-school activities for local youth. Since September, the squad has spent time with the kids, including teaching them cheers and dances as well as playing games and other fun.
New Hope Inc. is a community-based, non-profit organization that provides before and after school programs for 60-85 children in Oskaloosa. They also partner with Crisis Intervention, United Way, SIEDA Head Start and many churches in Oskaloosa to provide family care and counseling and believe in “strengthening families through education, development opportunities and support within the transforming circle of Christian Care”.
The team also filled a request during Spirit of Oskaloosa Pride Week in October at Mahaska County Head Start. The day was filled with three different classes learning Oskaloosa Pride cheers in addition to ‘story’ time.
“We had a great time with the kids,” Head Coach Lisa Conner said. “Fun times were had by all involved in sharing our PRIDE for Oskaloosa.”
