Santorum speaks with Pella voters

Rick Santorum talks with residents in Pella, Iowa on Tuesday

Pella, Iowa- Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santourm was in Pella Tuesday for a townhall event. Santourm started off the event by speaking about Iowa’s fight to keep its first in the nation status. “I know the folks here in Iowa fight very very hard to be the first in the nation, to weigh in on the presidential batter. I know you take that responsibility seriously and I say this everywhere I go now and that is I know you’re going to do this, but don’t pay any attention to what national polls and what all the pundits and experts are telling you. You trust your heart. You trust your own judgment.”

Santorum also said what he believed is the most important thing the Republicans need to do in the election next year. “The most important thing we need to do in this election is get rid of Barack Obama.”

Santorum also spoke about his races for Congress and the Senate where he was disregarded by many. He also spoke about key area’s Republicans need to be able to compete in next year. “The bulk of the competition is from Wisconsin to Pennsylvania and Virginia, and all those states in between. Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and even North Carolina. Those are the states that ultimately are going to decide this election. Well has anybody in this race proven they can win one of those states? And has anyone proven that they can win in a competitive state and win in a democratic state as a conservative?”

Santorum continued. ““I was outspent 3:1, the media didn’t cover me, I had 6% name recognition six months before the election , basically sort of like this election. Given no chance to win. So what did I do? I just went out and worked hard, stood up for the conservative values I believe in. We went out and Karen and I knocked on almost 20,000 doors and we were able to all the odds, because we rallied people who believed change could happen in Washington.”

Santorum also gave his thoughts on income inequality. “I’m for income inequality. I think some people should make more than other people. Why? Because some people work harder and have better ideas and take more risks and they should be rewarded for it. I have no problem with income inequality. President Obama is for income equality. That’s socialist.”

Santorum continued. “I’m not for income equality. I’m not for equality of results, I’m for equality of opportunity.”

Santorum also offered his opinion on Obama’s economic plan. “As opposed to the President who goes out and plays class warfare every day. The most un-American rhetoric I have seen from a President in a long long time. It’s a dividing type of rhetoric instead of a united one. Finding common ground where Republicans and Democrats can come together and say let’s build this country together instead of pitching one group of people against anther which is what this President does on a routine basis.”

“That’s what we bring to the table. That’s why I’m excited to be out here. That’s what I’ve learned from being in Iowa,” Santorum said in conclusion.
