George Turner
George Turner, 89, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, December 17, 2011, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born July 24, 1922, at Hocking, Iowa, the son of John and Evalyne Beadle Turner. He attended Albia High School. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army and served aboard a troop transport ship as a Medical Technical Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre. He was given an honorable discharge in 1945. On March 22, 1946, he was united in marriage to Virginia Brom at Oskaloosa. He worked at Clow and later for Oskaloosa Engineering. He retired in 1984. He enjoyed working in the garage, hunting, and gardening.
His family includes his wife of over 65 years Virginia Turner of Oskaloosa; four children: Duane (& Vannette) Turner of Sacramento, California, Beverly Williams of New Sharon, Ronald (& Carolyn) Turner and Marla (& Dan) Thomas all of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren: Stephanie (& David) Soileau, Jill (& Brian) Enney, Michael Turner, Ronald Turner, Marci Turner, Alicia Thomas, and Cody Thomas; 5 great grandsons: D.J., Adam, Zackary, Austin, and Jacob; a great great grandson: Roberto; four half brothers: John Turner of Denver, Iowa, Dave Turner of Gilbert, Iowa, Tom Turner of Cassville, Missouri, and Jim Turner of Marion, Iowa; a half sister: Bonnie James of Ottumwa; and many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother: Mary Turner; a son in law: Dick Williams; a brother: Arthur Turner; two sisters: Liz Nicoletto and Maxine Allison; and two half brothers: Bill and Paul Turner.
