Reagan Dinner Has GOP Candidates Minus Two Front Runners

Iowa Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds makes her remarks at the Reagan Dinner Friday night

Des Moines, Iowa – Five of the GOP Presidential hopefuls took the stage at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines for a series of speeches to the state GOP supporters. While at the Reagan Dinner, the candidates took to attacking President Obama and not each other.

The dinner gave candidates a chance to speak in front of Iowa’s Republican office holders, activists, and other party members of influence.

The event started with a quick welcome by Iowa GOP Co-Chairman Bill Schickel and the invocation by 4th District Central Committee member A.J. Spiker. All of this was followed up by a leading of the pledge of allegiance by Iowa State Auditor David Vaudt and Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz.

Iowa Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds set the tone for the evening by saying, “We must elect a Republican, pro-business, job focused, conservative leader to the White House, and that is the first step to putting our country back on the right track.”

“Let us have a spirited contest in the arena of ideas, but once a candidate is selected we will stand together and get behind those shared ideals and vision. We must come together and refuse to do anything but to leave our state and our nation better than we found it. Together we can win this fight to keep our nation free and prosperous and strong,” Reynolds said in the conclusion of her remarks to the group gathered at Hy-Vee Hall.

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley delivered some pointed criticism towards President Obama Friday evening

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley took to the stage to give his remarks to the group of GOP supporters by saying, “We have just 12 months to save America from Obama’s EuroAmerica. After 30 months, this economy belongs to President Obama. He cannot blame George Bush anymore for what the economy is. He owns it. Taxed too much, borrow too much, spend too much.”

Grassley continued. “And it seems like he [President Obama] can’t seem to learn from the mistakes of Greece. That he wants to take us down the road of near default with his massive increase in the national debt equal to what all presidents prior to him will have accumulated; which he will accumulate in 4 years in office. And mostly it’s because he’s not attending to the nitty. Instead of being a Commander in Chief; he’s a Campaigner in Chief,” Said a fiery Grassley to the group of supporters.

“And I don’t think he’ll [Obama] learn it, but it would be nice if he would learn that the American people create wealth and government consumes wealth.” Grassley said in his speech, as a further jab at the current administration. “We Republicans will bring out, once again through our president, the greatness of America and we will have no more apologies to the rest of the world about America at all.”

Chairman of the Iowa Republican Party reminded his fellow Republicans that in 60 days the process of selecting a candidate would begin

Iowa GOP Chairman Matt Strawn was the last person to speak before the candidates.”Sixty Days from right now all across our state, in our church basements, in our gymnasiums, in our schools, sixty days from right now we start the process of choosing Barack Obama’s Republican successor and it starts here in Iowa,” Strawn said to applause from the group of GOP supporters.

12 term U.S. Congressman Dr. Ron Paul took to the stage for his 10 minutes of time in front of the dinner guests with Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich finishing the line-up and, by far, getting the best response from the audience. He was the first of five candidates to speak. For each candidates speech you can follow the links below:
