Idle Statesmen Up to #8

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–The William Penn football team should have bye weeks more often as the idle program jumped up one spot in the seventh NAIA top-25 poll today.

The Statesmen (7-1, 3-1 MWL), who did not play last week, moved up one position into eighth (235 points) due to losses by previous #7 Benedictine (Kan.) and previous #8 Azusa Pacific (Calif.).

The top remains the same with Saint Xavier (Ill.) still #1 with 14 first-place votes, while Marian (Ind.) is second with the other first-place vote. Carroll (Mont.), Georgetown (Ky.), and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) round out the top five.

Fellow Midwest League programs St. Francis (Ill.) (#9) and St. Ambrose (#13) are not far behind William Penn, while Grand View is tied for 28th with six votes.

William Penn hosts Trinity International (Ill.) for Homecoming Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
