Addison, Ill.–In proving that the season opener was not a fluke, the Statesmen bowling team once again picked off some of the best teams in the nation to win the ISBPA/Kegel Collegiate Classic Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn was first out of 25 teams in the qualifying round (six regular games, ten Bakers) with a tally of 8,410 pins, 31 more than Wichita State (Kan.).

The Statesmen then held their seed in the eight-team knockout round by winning the first round with a two-game mark of 466 and defeating Lindenwood (Mo.) in the championship, 431-394.

The navy and gold made up three spots during the Baker competition after sitting in fourth following Saturday’s action.

Zachary Wilkins of Urbana (Ohio) was the top bowler in the six games with a 227.7 average.

Sean Rangel (Jr., Omaha, Neb., Bellevue East HS) led the Statesmen during qualifying with a 218.8 average (1,313 pins) to place seventh out of 296 bowlers.

Brandon Brooks (Sr., Sigourney, Vincennes CC) was also in the top ten, taking tenth at 218.3, while Drew Balta (So., Walford, Cedar Rapids Prairie HS) narrowly missed the top 20 in 22nd at 206.5.

Cameron Foster (So., West Jordan, Utah, West Jordan HS), in 33rd at 201.8, and Nick Atkinson (Sr., Frostburg, Md., Vincennes CC), in 41st at 200.5, were top-50 finishers as well.

The junior varsity squad was also in action, finishing fourth out of 17 teams with a score of 7,715 pins.

Alex Hoskins (Fr., Pocatello, Idaho, Century HS), with a school-record 279 in his second game, highlighted the effort in 11th at 218.2 average. Conan Mackey (Fr., Bray, Ireland, St. Kilian’s School) also found his name in the first 20 with a 211.8 clip.

Nathan Namanny (Jr., Denison, Denison HS), with a 193.4 average, and Kyle Clark (So., Aurora, Ill., Yorkville HS), with a 180.2 mark, also bowled all six games.

Brandon Barboza (Fr., Brick, N.J., Brick Townshie Memorial HS), with a 181.0 average (three games), Tim Logan (Fr., Lafayette, Ind., Lafayette Jefferson HS), with a 169.5 average (two games), and Ethan Noble (So., Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Washington HS), with a 136 in his lone game, also saw action over the weekend.

Next: The Statesmen have a weekend off before traveling to Madison, Wis. to compete in the Warhawk Open on November 5-6.
