World Food Prize Laureate to Speak at William Penn

William Penn University

William Penn University would like to extend an invitation to all community members to attend the World Food Prize Lecture at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11 at the George Daily Auditorium. The World Food Prize was envisioned by Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, recipient of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize for his work in world agriculture. Since 1986, The World Food Prize has been recognizing outstanding individuals who have made staggering contributions to improving the quality, quantity, or availability of food throughout the world. It is the pleasure of William Penn University to welcome the 2001 World Food Prize Laureate, Dr. Per Pinstrup-Andersen as the keynote speaker for the October 11 World Food Prize Lecture.

Dr. Pinstrup-Andersen has been the major driving force behind the groundbreaking 2020 Vision Initiative, the most comprehensive research and distribution program ever undertaken on global food security. It drew attention to the world’s potential food security crises and led to changes in governmental policies and priorities which have improved the lives of the world’s poorest citizens.

He is currently the H.E. Babcock Professor of Food, Nutrition and Public Policy and Professor of Applied Economics at Cornell University; he also holds multiple honorary doctorates and professorships as well as professional appointments. In 2001, he published a book, Seeds of Contention, which has since been published in five languages. To this day, Dr. Pinstrup-Andersen continues his own research in addition to fostering and contributing to the work of his peers.
