Harrison and Johnson Honored for Help in McKendree Win

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–Although it took a great team effort to shut out McKendree last Saturday, two Statesmen players were rewarded for their special efforts by receiving Midwest League Player of the Week laurels.

Damon Harrison (Sr., Lake Charles, La., Lake Charles Boston HS) was named Defensive POW and Jason Johnson (So., Geneseo, Ill., Geneseo HS) picked up Special Teams POW accolades in leading #5 William Penn (5-0, 2-0 MWL) to a 21-0 win over McKendree.

Harrison paced a defensive surge that allowed only 148 total yards, including just 17 after halftime. The senior recorded a team-best 12 tackles (2.5 for loss) with one sack.

For the year, Harrison heads the navy and gold with 36 tackles (seven for loss), three sacks (tied for team high), and two forced fumbles (team high).

Johnson assisted William Penn in dominating the field position battle, punting the ball five times for an average of 45.2 yards (long of 65 yards). He pinned McKendree inside its own 20-yard line on three occasions.

For the season, Johnson, who is also a significant contributor on the defensive line, has eight punts for a 43.6 clip. The sophomore has two kicks of over 50 yards and has placed four inside the opposition’s 20-yard line.

Defensively, he has nine stops (three for loss), including a pair of quarterback sacks.

The awards are the sixth and seventh for the football program this fall (three defensive, two offensive, and two special teams).
