E.B.H.S Band Wins Contests

Eddyville-Blakesburg Schools

The Eddyville / Blakesburg Marching Band had a great day in Cedar Rapids and Pella Saturday as they outscored a total of 16 other bands in two marching band competitions. In the afternoon, the band competed at the Linn-Mar Marching Band Contest and placed 1st in class 2A with a score of 73.8. The band also placed 1st at the Marching Dutch Invitational with a score of 67.9.

At the Linn-Mar Festival, the E.B.H.S. Band outscored the bands from Sumner-Fredricksburg, Davis County, West Delaware, Marion, Clear Creek Amana, Solon, Mt. Pleasant, Oskaloosa, Norwalk, Dubuque Hempstead, Xavier, and Bettendorf.

That evening, the EBHS Marching Band placed 1st in class 2A at the Marching Dutch Invitational Contest in Pella. EB also won the Outstanding Drumlne and Color Guard Awards in class 2A. Eddyville Blakesburg had the distinction of earning the highest score in the marching execution category out of all of the bands in competition.

The E.B.H.S. Marching Band has 80 members this year. The soloists for this year’s show are Brooke Lunsford, Anna Haselhuhn, and Jessica Jones. The Drum Majors are Megan Street and Samantha Claypool. The band is directed by Joe Overton, Dezirae Russell, and Color Guard instructor Amanda Brink.

This Saturday, the band travels to Urbandale. They perform at 5:45 in class 2A competition. The band competes at Valleyfest in West Des Moines on October 8th. On October 15th the band competes at State Marching Band Contest in Pella and then at the Mid-Iowa Band Championships in Ankeny that evening. As always, friends and supporters of the band are encouraged to attend and lend your vocal support.
