William Penn Succumbs to #9 Grand View
Oskaloosa–The Statesmen soccer team battled hard early, but just did not have the stamina to go toe-to-toe with the #9 team in the nation in falling 6-1 to Grand View in Midwest Collegiate Conference action Saturday.
William Penn (1-6-1, 0-1 MCC) was outshot 26-7, but played even with the Vikings (8-1, 2-0 MCC) through one half of the first stanza.
Trailing 1-0 after a quick Grand View score, Tyler Mather (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa Western CC) knotted the contest at one apiece with an unassisted bomb at the 18:50 mark. It is his team-leading third goal of the season.
Unfortunately, Grand View responded with three more goals in the first half and two additional ones after the break to remain perfect in the league.
Jordan Hoffman (So., Hyde Park, Utah, Skyview HS) posted four shots (three on goal) to pace the Statesmen offense, while goalkeepers Mason Bandy (Fr., Calgary, Alberta, St. Francis HS) and Sam Gurski (So., Beaumont, Texas, West Brook HS) tallied five saves each.
Next: The Statesmen conclude their six-game homestand Wednesday by hosting Ashford in MCC action at 7 p.m.
