William Penn Crush Grinnell 3-1
Grinnell–The Lady Statesmen volleyball team returned to the .500 mark overall with a convincing 3-1 win over Grinnell in non-conference action Saturday.
William Penn (10-10) won by scores of 25-16, 25-12, 6-25, 25-21.
Despite their lapse in the third game, the visitors still managed to win the hitting battle, .243-.191, including having five players finish over the .250 plateau.
Lacey Taylor (Jr., Cedar, Iowa Western CC) was the team’s most used and most efficient hitter, putting down 17 kills with a .324 attack percentage.
Christa Subbert (Sr., Stanton, Stanton HS) joined her in double figures with 11 winners in addition to a squad-high 17 digs. Taylor added 14, while both players had one ace each.
Brittany Rohling (Sr., Thayer, Kan., Neosho CC) contributed eight kills.
Katherine Stumberg (Sr., Williamsburg, Kirkwood CC) managed 21 assists and Dayna Sammons (Fr., Menomonee Falls, Wis., Menomonee Falls HS) was credited with 11.
The defense has had better performances this fall, only collecting three points via blocks, including two blocks assists by both Taylor and Rohling.
