Navy and Gold at Iowa State Meet
Decorah–Nick Reynolds (Sr., Riverton, Utah, Iowa Western CC) nearly claimed a top-20 finish in pacing the William Penn cross country programs at the Iowa Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Iowa State Saturday.
On the men’s side, William Penn was fifth out of six teams with 144 points. Host Iowa State took the top five places and easily won the men’s crown with 15 points, the lowest point total possible.
The Cyclones duplicated that performance on the women’s side to also win with 15 points. The Lady Statesmen did not field a team.
Individually, ISU’s Abdou Seye won the men’s 8K race in a time of 26:35, while Maddy Becker took home the women’s 5K title in a time of 18:56.
Reynolds was 25th overall (out of 75 runners) with a time of 28:12, while Nick Thomas (Fr., Salmon, Idaho, Salmon HS) also broke inside the top 50, taking 41st at 29:41.
Deane Wichelt (Fr., Durant, Durant HS) narrowly finished inside a half hour, placing 52nd at 30:10.
Cameron Pittman (So., Carl Junction, Mo., Carl Junction HS), in 64th (32:16), Quintin Marshall (So., St. Louis, Mo., McCluer South Berkeley HS), in 67th (33:29), and Donovan DeVore (Sr., Wilton, Wilton HS), in 72nd (37:28), also competed for William Penn.
Kyra English (So., Draper, Utah, Alta HS) headed the Lady Statesmen, finishing in 29th place (out of 64 runners) with a time of 21:44.
Sade Myers (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS) was next, placing 45th at 23:32.
Morgan Avery (Sr., Minot, N.D., Iowa Western CC) went home in 50th place (24:15) and Rachel Skinner (So., Felicity, Ohio, Ripley HS) rounded out the team in 62nd place (28:43).
Next: William Penn travels to Crete, Neb. Saturday to compete in the Dean White Invitational hosted by Doane.
