Beloit, Wis.–Lacey Taylor (Jr., Cedar, Iowa Western CC) competed well all weekend to help the Lady Statesmen volleyball team to a 3-1 record at the Beloit Buc Blast Tournament Friday and Saturday.

William Penn (7-6) began the weekend with three consecutive sweeps, before succumbing in a repeat matchup to end the tournament.

On Friday, the navy and gold defeated Ripon (Wis.) 25-19, 25-20, 25-22 and then knocked off Judson (Ill.) 25-23, 25-17, 25-17. The Lady Statesmen then opened Saturday by sweeping Carroll (Wis.) 25-15, 25-14, 25-19. Unfortunately, the program had to share the tournament crown with Dubuque (both at 3-1), losing to Ripon 3-1 by scores of 26-28, 25-23, 27-29, 19-25.

William Penn 3, Ripon 0

Taylor, an all-tournament team selection, surpassed double digits each time out, beginning with 15 kills and a .682 attack percentage against Ripon. Taylor matched her 14-kill showing in the Carroll win, followed by nine kills each via Rielly and Christa Subbert (Sr., Stanton, Stanton HS).

Sammons (19) and Stumberg (18) both figured nicely into the two-setter rotation and Connors again guided the opposite end with 17 digs. Hingtgen collected three aces as well.

Ripon 3, William Penn 1

Three individuals in double digits could not keep Ripon from avenging its loss on Friday. Taylor had 18 winners, while Subbert and Rielly both managed 13. Rohling was productive as well with eight.

Sammons was credited with 29 assists with Stumberg just slightly behind at 25. Connors found ball after ball for 37 digs and Taylor and Rohling each contributed three block assists. Taylor concluded a splendid weekend with three more aces.
