Bud’s Brew Shack Bids Oskaloosa Farewell

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Bud’s Brew Shack along Pella Ave. has been in Oskaloosa since June of 2009.

Judy Uitermarkt says her husband Bud has been brewing “forever” and they believed that there would be a need for this type of store and service. Much of the clientele came from outside of Oskaloosa itself such as Sigourney, Ottumwa, and Pella. Judy says they had done well, but that with it being a specialty location, “it’s tough”.

So over the weekend and into Monday they had a sale to liquidate much of their remaining inventory. A pleasant surprise was the amount of gifts that were not associated with the home brew market.What hasn’t been sold was looking to be listed on Craigslist, and other avenues, to dispose of inventory.

Bud would hold classes to teach the new home brew student or other interested person. He would also go to people’s homes while they brewed to help them along with the process, giving advice along the way to the new and novice brew masters.

Judy says there is tons of traffic along Pella Ave. between the Elementary school and A Ave. They will also be selling the building as well, and Judy notes the many possibilities that the location could have, including the use of it’s drive up window.

The Uitermarkts also mentioned the rise in property taxes and other fees as just one of many reasons they decided to close down the business and sell off the building. They said that they will be considering moving away from town completely.
