Stobart Ties Course Record at Oskaloosa
Oskaloosa, Iowa — Sebastian Stobart (Sr., Harare, Zimbabwe, St. Georges College) has played his fair share of golf in Oskaloosa over the past few years, but nothing compares to his performance on Thursday afternoon.
The soon-to-be senior, playing with teammate Adriaan de Villiers (Jr., Akasia, South Africa, Akasia HS), tied a course record with a seven-under 65 at Oskaloosa Golf Course.
Stobart birdied holes 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, and 18, but he highlighted his day by recording an eagle on the par-5 13th with a hole-out from 110 yards out. He tallied just one bogey on hole 8. His 65 matches the mark of Steve Hicks, set back in September 2002.
“I have been striking the ball well for some time now and I made some crucial up-and-downs for a great round,” Stobart said. “I finally holed some putts yesterday as well. The course was in really great shape and I was reading the greens well. They were rolling really true.”
“Hopefully my good form continues into my final year at William Penn and I can help us accomplish our goals,” Stobart added. “I just want to thank Oskaloosa Golf Course for allowing our team to practice this early in the year; it has really helped my game already.”
Stobart has been one of William Penn’s best players since joining the squad in the spring of 2009. He posted a 78.1 scoring average last year with a season-best one-under 70 at Otter Creek Golf Course in September.
William Penn opens its season on September 6-7 by competing in the Iowa Wesleyan Fun City Classic at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington.
