David died at his home in Des Moines of natural causes.
David William Jackson was born in Mason City, Iowa May 20, 1958 to Edward and Marjorie Bess Jackson. Before moving to Oskaloosa in August 1962, David lived in Peoria and Springfield, IL. He attended Oskaloosa schools, graduating in 1976. While in high school, he was on the tennis team and a member of the debate team, earning championship awards. He was active in theatre and during his senior year wrote and directed a play. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in theatre and philosophy in 1981 and a degree in mathematics in 1986. David taught algebra and geometry at Lincoln High School for 22 years beginning in 1988. He particularly enjoyed teaching his math class of recent immigrants. He also taught math at DMACC for a number of years. David was an avid reader and loved current events, movies and technology. He was a loyal user of Apple. He enjoyed a host of friends from his youth and teaching colleagues.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father. His family includes his mother, Marjorie Jackson of Oskaloosa; brothers: Jerry of Waukee, IA and John of Columbia, MO and a sister, Jane Elizabeth Jackson of Hendersonville, TN; his niece and nephews: Alec and Thomas Jackson of Waukee; and Jackson, Will, Noah and Caroline Stroud of Hendersonville, TN
In lieu of flowers those wishing to honor David’s memory may contribute to the Oskaloosa Public Library or the David Jackson Educational Memorial Fund at the University of Iowa.
