Mahaska County Supervisors Met In Regular Session August 1, 2011

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Supervisors met in regular session starting at 9:00 a.m. in the 3rd floor conference room at the courthouse Monday.

After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the July 18th meeting, the board then approved the bills for July in the amount of 1,050,197.49, with all 3 in agreement.

The application for Peppers, Inc was tabled at the time. The next item was a request by Nightlighter Fireworks, Inc to do a fireworks display August 6, 2011 at 1041 Cordova Ave., Lynnville, Iowa. Additionally, Mahaska County was named as additional insured. Motion passed with 3 aye’s.

A request was granted to the Sheriff to have Erica Swink removed from the jail payroll effective July 25, 2011. Motion passed.

The board moved on to allowing the homestead credit to be paid at 63% (the same as what the state is reimbursing the county) for the fiscal tax year payable 2011-2012. Motion passed. The Board then passed 5,443 homestead credit claims and 1,177 military claims for credit for the fiscal year payable 2011-2012, with 3 ayes. Motion carried.

Family Farm applications were next on the table, with the Board approving 5,225 family farm applications and 11,365 agricultural land applications for the fiscal year payable 2011-2012. Motion carried.

The last item on the agenda dealt with a project that repairs food damage to the bridge that spans the Des Moines River on county road G71. The board approved the contract with Streb Construction Co., Inc for $185,216.40 for the project. The item passed with 3 ayes.

The board adjourned until their next scheduled meeting.
