Cavaliers Spend The Week Rehearsing In Oskaloosa

The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps practices at Community Stadium in Oskaloosa July 15, 2011

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps has been in Oskaloosa since Tuesday after competing recently in Omaha on Sunday, then West Des Moines on Monday. The group, 150 strong,  is now preparing a new routine for an upcoming competition.

The Cavaliers have a connection to the Oskaloosa Band Director. The facilities such as Community Stadium were put to good use by the group while they built and polished their new routine that they will be performing in DCI Minnesota, one of their first major regional competitions that is held today at the University of Minnesota Campus in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Cavaliers were founded in 1948 and were connected with the Boy Scouts. Many other Drum and Bugle Corps of the period were also connected to the American Legion and the VFW. Since those days, funding and sponsorship by those organizations has dried up and they now depend solely upon souvenir sales and appearance fees.
