CAT and HAT at the Fair
Support Your Local Y Gymnastics Program
Oskaloosa, Iowa July 15, 2011 – The Mahaska County YMCA Gymnastics Parents Group is conducting a “CAT and HAT” fundraiser on Friday, July 22, at 11 am at the Southeast Iowa Fairgrounds. The “CAT” is short for Cartwheel-a-Thon. Gymnasts will be asking people to pledge money for every cartwheel they complete in one minute. The “HAT” is short for Handstand Walking-a-Thon in which the more advanced gymnasts will ask for pledges for each step they can take on their hands without falling. Gymnasts who are unable to attend the fundraiser at the fairgrounds will still be participating by doing their one-minute of cartwheels or handstand walking at the gym.
The goal of this fundraising activity is to raise $5,000 to purchase much needed equipment for the Y gymnastics program. The gymnastics program is highly successful with over 200 youth participating every year in both recreational classes and competitive teams. The Y has received a $4,000 grant from the Mahaska County Community Foundation. The funds raised by the parents group will provide the match to that grant, giving the Y $9,000 for equipment which will include a Tumble Trak (a 30’ long trampoline), a vault runway, a balance beam, a quick release high bar, and back handspring trainers, as well as other landing mats, spotting blocks, and training devices.
If you would like to make a donation or learn more about the Y gymnastics program, call the Y at 673.8411 or send an email to gymnastics@mahaskaymca.org. All donations to the Mahaska County Y are considered tax-deductible but donors are encouraged to consult tax advisors for nay donation restrictions or requirements.
