George Daily Auditorium

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa School Board met in regular session this evening. The first item on the agenda was the consideration of a proposal from the building trades class. The proposal came as a result of a lack of a place to build a house for the 2011-2012 school year. The board approved, on a 5-0 vote, the purchase of land for the building trades class.

The board next considered the approval of the purchase on fencing the bus barn. Superintendent Reiter reported that the new transportation facility was in need of new fencing. After a little discussion on the new facility, the board approved, on a 5-0 vote, the purchase of the fencing. The board then considered the appointment of a board secretary-treasurer. This matter is an annual occurrence and the board re-appointed current board secretary-treasurer, Chad Vink, to another term.

The next item on the agenda was that of renewing the board’s membership with the Iowa Association of School Boards. Superintendent Reiter brought a couple of options to the board for them to consider. After some discussion, the board voted 5-0 to renew their membership with the Iowa Association of School Boards.

The final item on the agenda was that of appointments. Superintendent Reiter reported that two recent hires had requested to released from their contracts. One of them cited personal reasons and another stated that they had received a job closer to their current home. The board voted 5-0 to appoint Tim Veiseth as the Elementary School 3-5 Principal and Amanda Hoffman as Middle School Guidance Counselor. The board also voted 5-0 to appoint Michelle Dickinson as the Elementary Music Teacher.

After the regular meeting, the board adjourned to closed session. The next meeting of the Oskaloosa School Board will be on August 9th at 7:30 PM in the Daily Auditorium Boardroom.
