Arterburn’s Day Of Court Sets Arraignment Schedule

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Bradley Arterburn continues to be held without bond acoording to trial information made available after his preliminary hearing.

In it, prosecutors accuse Bradley William Arterburn of Murder in the First Degree, committed as follows: Bradley William Arterburn, on or about the 19th day of June, 2011, in the County of Mahaska and State of Iowa, did kill Robert “Hank” Horovitz, in violation of Iowa Code sections 707.1 and 707.2(1), a Class “A” Felony.

Bradley’s mother, Linda Arterburn made the call to 911 that evening at 8:38 p.m. During the call, she states that her son Brad Arterburn had stab wounds to the chest, and her “boyfriend [is] cut across the throat and [has] several stabs to [the] stomach with a sword” as was reported in the Oskaloosa Police Call for Service Record. Police believe that Arterburn used a different weapon to injure himself.

When police arrived, Bradley did not go peacefully into police custody. According to the Call For Service Record, they had him in custody at 8:43 p.m. According to police, he was confrontational and they had to subdue him to get him under control. The weapons were secured at 8:52 PM.

By 9:21 PM Arterburn was in the Mercy helicopter and being transported to a Des Moines area hospital.

Oskaloosa Police Chief Jake McGee spoke about the weapon that was used in the murder. The weapon is described as a “Battle Axe” that was common in the Medieval Era.

In paperwork dated the 28th of June, the judge “did find that the evidence contained within this Triak Information and Minutes of Evidence, if unexplained, would warrant a conviction by trial jury, and being satisfied from the showing made herein find this case should be prosecuted by Trial Information and the same is approved.”

District Judge James Blomgren set his date for July 11th, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in the District Courtroom of the Mahaska County Courthouse.

A criminal charge is merely a criminal charge and not an indication of guilt. All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
