Stabbing in Oskaloosa Leads to First Degree Murder Charge

Oskaloosa Police Department is maintaining the crime scene at 1106 North 4th Street in Oskaloosa until their investigation is complete

Oskaloosa, Iowa – In a press release from the Oskaloosa Police Department:

On 6/19/11, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Officers of the Oskaloosa Police Department were dispatched to 1106 North 4th Street, Oskaloosa, Iowa, in reference to a stabbing.

Upon officers arrival, 58-year-old Robert Henry Horovitz, of Davenport, Iowa, was found inside the residence suffering from multiple injuries.

Officers also located 25-year-old Bradley William Arterburn near the residence. Arterburn was found to be suffering from what is believed to be self-inflicted wounds.

Both Individuals were transported to the Mahaska Health Partnership. Arterburn was then flown to a Des Moines hospital for treatment of his wounds.

Horovitz died, while at the Mahaska Health Partnership, from the wounds he had received.

A temporary landing pad had to be set up at MHP to allow both Mercy helicopters access to the hospital

As a result of the investigation into this incident, police have filed 1 count of First Degree Murder against Bradley William Arterburn. This charge was filed with the Mahaska County District Court. An arrest warrant was issued for Arterburn and no bond was set.

Arterburn will make his initial appearance in the Mahaska County District Court, following release from the hospital.

First Degree Murder is a Class “A” Felony, Punishable by life in prison.

The Oskaloosa Police Department was assisted in their investigation by the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department, the Mahaska County Attorney’s Office and the Division of Criminal Investigation.

The investigation into this matter is continuing.

A criminal charge is merely a criminal charge and not an indication of guilt. All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
