William Penn University Athletics

Euless, Texas–James Miller (Sr., Oswego, Ill., Vincennes) finished a successful collegiate bowling career with a strong showing at the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships last week.

Competing in the 24-person tournament, the senior qualified tenth with a 201.4 average (2,417 pins) over 12 games.

In bracket play, the top eight seeds all received a first-round bye. Miller opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over #23 seed Ted Chojecki (Erie CC) by scores of 234-169, 208-182, 205-179.

He unfortunately was then eliminated 3-0 by #7 seed Kyle Barnes (Middle Tennessee State) by scores of 197-232, 188-228, 166-237. Barnes went on to an underdog title, culminating with a 3-2 victory over #4 seed Jacob Kent (Robert Morris) in the finals.

Miller qualified for the Championships by placing fourth in his 97-person section tournament. He became the second player in as many years of William Penn men’s bowling to reach the Championships as Sean Rangel (So., Omaha, Neb., Bellevue East HS) advanced last season.
