Local Resident Charged With Assault On A Peace Officer

Oskaloosa, Iowa- In a domestic incident Saturday that has one local man being charged with Attempt To Commit Murder, the other party in this case is also facing charges.

In documents obtained by Osky News, Shari Thompson of University Park is being charged with Assault On A Peace Officer, and Interference With Official Acts in connection with that call.

The incident happened at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Saturday May 28, 2011. Deputy Matt McCain describes what happened in his sworn affidavit, “During the time while looking for Wessels, I did go back and was gathering information and Officer Johnston of the Oskaloosa Police Department was assisting me. The defendant when told to stay with us, did attempt to walk back towards the residence of the assault and I was not done with my investigation. We told her to stop and Officer Johnston did reach up and grab towards her arm to stop her after she did not respond to verbal commands to stop. The defendant then slapped Officer Johnston’s arm away and then tried to continue towards the residence and had to be physically assisted to the ground and handcuffed. She also refused to put her hands behind her back after being ordered numerous times to do so. Her hand also had to be forced back behind her and handcuffed. She also would not get into the patrol unit after her arrest and was again ordered numerous times to get in.”

Each count is a Class D Felony. Each carries a maximum of 5 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $7,500.
