The Oskaloosa YMCA Boys Gymnastics Team captured the first place team trophy at the AmeriKids State Meet on Saturday, April 30, 2011. The team, which is small but mighty, consists of only three boys. Jack Cummings-age 9 from Pella got 2nd place overall, Jack Dawson-age 9 from Oskaloosa got 1st place overall and Josh Skinner-age 11 from What Cheer got 1st place overall. The boys are coached by Todd Cummings, who took over the program this season. Todd is a former gymnast himself who competed for Iowa State while in college.

YMCA Gymnastics Director Meghan Slay said, “Todd has been such a great asset to our program! It has been fantastic having a man in the gym to coach the boys. We’ve seen our boys program really start to take off this season and we would love to see it grow even bigger. Gymnastics is such a beneficial sport for boys. It helps increase strength, flexibility, agility, and power. It’s the perfect building block for success in all sports, and it’s a lot of fun!”

Summer gymnastics classes begin the week of June 6. Visit www.mahaskaymca.org or call Meghan at 641-295-1434 for more information.
