Donald Cable

Deep River. Donald S. Cable, 67, of Deep River passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be held at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Deep River. Memorials may be directed to the Deep River Christian Church, Grinnell Regional Medical Center Hospice or the Deep River Fire Dept. Friends may send condolences or sign the online guestbook at www.hollandcoblefuneralhome.com. Holland-Coble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Sam Cable, son of Sam and Marie (Bauer) Cable was born on August 7, 1943 in Sigourney, Iowa. He graduated from Deep River Millersburg School in 1961. Don was united in marriage to Dixie Lee Hilderbrand at the Little Brown Church on May 2, 1964. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids where Don worked at various jobs in sales. In 1968, Don and Dixie moved to Rochester, Minnesota where Don worked in construction sales. In 1996, they retired and moved to their present home at Deep River.

Don loved to fish and travel with his wife Dixie. He also enjoyed reading mysteries and playing cards. He was a lifelong Hawkeye and Cubs fan.

Preceding Don in death were his parents, his niece Cindy Green and his sister-in-law Vera Cable.

Don is survived by his wife, Dixie of Deep River; his brother Richard Cable of North English; his sisters: Yvonne Grimm of Williamsburg, Marlys (Myron) Kinzler of Millersburg and Barbara (Lee) Kreger of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
