Live United 5K & Family Day at William Penn

The Live United 5K run had over 165 entries for it's race on Saturday

With a dash out of the PAC Center, the United Way 5K and Family Day began. Over 165 local residents took part in the race, with everyone having their own personal goal in mind to accomplish. With some mom’s pushing strollers and families using the time for a family event, with parents and kids running together, they all enjoyed a blue sky.

Race Day registration began at 8 a.m. for those not previously signed up.

“The event was originally put together to raise awareness for the non-profit agencies in Mahaska County.” said Christy Bellinger of Mahaska County United Way. “We are different than a lot of United Ways in that we not only promote partner agencies and support partner agencies, but we also have direct programming.” Bellinger continued.

The Live United 5K was enjoyed by people of all ages and all skill levels

Local groups such as the William Penn University Football Team sponsored a punt, pass and kick that started at 10 a.m.

The Oskaloosa Mayhem Girls Roller Derby tended to the inflatables while the Joel Pinkerton Duo performed for the crowd of well over 300 that was there to enjoy the day.
