Oskaloosa Buy-Sell-Trade City Garage Sale Packs The Varied Industy Building

The Varied Industry Building on the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds was packed for the first ever Oskaloosa Buy-Sell-Trade garage sale.

The power of social media is a tool that is only becoming understood by business, and those that have a jump start in that sector of the internet could be poised for future success.

Oskaloosa Buy-Sell-Trade is one of those recent phenomenon to Facebook in recent months.  With an idea born and mostly promoted from their Facebook page and sister pages, a combination garage sale and vendor showcase took place at the Varied Industry Building at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds.

Nolanne Cox started the Oskaloosa Buy-Sell-Trade and organized the event today that featured 16 business vendors and 21 locals that used the opportunity to hold their garage sale. Nolanne put the event together in just around a month and a half and, with a packed venue, I would say the idea was a great success, especially for a first time event.

One of those vendors at today’s sale was Irena McWilliams who was selling Tomboy Tools.  McWilliams says they are, “Tools designed by women; for women; made especially for women’s hands.” The sale of the tools do help to raise money for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk. McWilliams said that she had been busy showing off tools and handing out catalogs to those interested in Tomboy Tools.

Garage sale vendor Penni Winegar said that sales were really good, “I think my Mom is having better luck than I am. I think it’s a great turn out all around.” Winegar says she decided to hold her garage sale after seeing it brought up on the Oskaloosa Buy-Sell-Trade Facebook page. More than making money, it was just getting those extra things out of the house that was a big motivation for Winegar. When asked if she hoped that they would plan another sale, Winegar replied “I hope so.”
