Clara was born on November 28, 1917, on the family farm near Newburg to Ralph and Ethel Vaughn Foster. She attended rural school and graduated from Newburg High School with the Class of 1935. On December 25, 1939, she was married to Lawrence Wallis at her parent’s home near Newburg. The couple operated a grain and livestock farm near Newburg and they worked as a team in all aspects of the farm operation. She was also a homemaker and mother of three children.
Clara was a member of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church and the Women’s Fellowship of the church. She was also a member of the Newburg Progress Club and the Iowa Farm Bureau. She enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, gardening and family activities. While living at St. Francis Manor, she enjoyed social activities, esepecially bingo.
Survivors include her children, Gary (Marilyn) Wallis of Sherman, Texas, Sheryl (Mike) Anderson of Grinnell and Marilyn (Phil) Cram of Fleming Island, Florida; and five grandchildren, Scott Wallis, Eric Anderson, Juanita Lavender, Whitney Cram and Ryan Cram.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Doris Binegar and Edna Ericson; and three brothers, Wilbur, Orville and Benny Foster.
