Daly, Rowley Sweep Weekly Honors

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–Despite playing only twice this past week, the Lady Statesmen softball team still managed to sweep the first installment of the 2011 Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Week honors announced today.

Brianne Rowley (Jr., Hood River, Ore., Blue Mountain CC) was named Player of the Week, while Amber Daly (Jr., Napa, Calif., Solano CC) garnered the Pitcher of the Week laurel.  The awards are the first for each athlete.

The pair led Penn (14-5) to a doubleheader sweep of Baker (Kan.) yesterday, winning 9-8 and 8-0 (6).

Rowley was 5-for-8 with two doubles and two runs scored, including going 3-for-4 with both runs in the nightcap.

For the year, the junior infielder/designated hitter is leading her squad in almost every offensive category, including batting average (.415), hits (27), home runs (6), doubles (8), runs (20), RBIs (23), and slugging percentage (.815).

She has seven multiple-hit performances to her credit and currently owns an eight-game hitting streak.  She has hit safely in all but three of her 19 games.

Daly was dominant in the pitching circle, allowing just two hits in a complete game shutout, her second of the year.  She closed strong, retiring the final 15 batters she faced in addition to striking out three.

For the year, Daly is 6-1 with a 3.75 Earned Run Average in 48 innings. She has six complete games, two shutouts, 31 strikeouts, and just five walks.  Opponents are hitting .273 against her.  Daly has limited her foes to two runs or less in five of her eight appearances.
