GRINNELL’S KELLY BRUCE EARNS SPOT IN NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Kelly Bruce ’12, from Middleton, Wis., has joined teammates Imelda Wistey ’14 and Michael Brus ’14, as a qualifier for the 2011 NCAA Division III National Swimming and Diving Championships.
Bruce set school records this year in both one- and three-meter diving with scores of 483.85 and 498.75, respectively. She won both events at the 2011 Midwest Conference Championships, making her a perfect 6-of-6 in the league meet in terms of victories, and was named MWC Diver of the Year for the third year in a row.
She will compete in both the women’s one- and three-meter events at the NCAA Championships, which are slated for March 23-26 in Knoxville, Tenn.
Wistey earned automatic spots in nationals in both the women’s 100-yard and 200 breaststrokes. She is ranked first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.55 and ninth in the 200 in 2:20.01. She will also compete in the 100 butterfly, where she is ranked 38th with a time of 58.47.
Brus earned an automatic spot in nationals in the men’s 200 backstroke, where he’s ranked fourth in 1:49.46. He also qualified in the 100 backstroke, where he is 10th in 50.28, and will compete in the 200 individual medley where he is ranked 51st in 2:00.73.
