Oskaloosa Middle School’s Science Fair makes science fun

OMS students MaKennah and Paige show off their experiment of showing the lack of deterioration in 3 week old fast food

Students from Oskaloosa Middle School competed in this years science fair. With 38 students participating with 20 different projects, Chad Farner of OMS stated, “The 2011 OMS Science Fair was a great success.”

Christian Flatt made a hovercraft from a plastic plate, a computer fan and 2 nine volt batteries. She said of the science fair, “I think it’s cool, I didn’t think as many people would be here.” Flatt spoke of the good size crowd that was on hand to see the different demonstrations.

OMS students MaKennah and Paige were on hand showing off their experiment that showed the lack of deterioration in fast food. They kept the food at room temperature for 3 weeks. They were attempting to see what one would rot first. “None of them are really rotten, they just got hard.” they said of their experiment. They continued explaining, “They never got like moldy or anything, they just got hard.”

Devin and Keirsten were showing off their experiment of slime and goo. “It looks like a liquid, but when you feel it, it’s really a solid.” The material was able to show many different properties depending upon it’s use.
