Football Announces Signings for 2011 Season

Oskaloosa–William Penn University football coach Todd Hafner has announced the signings for the program’s 2011 class as several high school stars and college transfers have inked to attend the University in the fall and compete for the football program.
Iowa high school standouts include:
Jacob Kerr is from Wapello and attends Wapello HS. The 6-2, 240-pound offensive lineman was a three-year varsity letter winner, a two-time all-district player, and a two-time all-academic athlete. He was also team captain and participated in wrestling and track.
John Hoskins is from Ames and attends Ames HS. The 6-3, 300-pound defensive tackle was an honorable-mention all-conference performer.
Nate Wilmes is from Carlisle and attends Carlisle HS. The 5-10, 185-pound running back was a Des Moines Register Second-Team All-State player, an Iowa Newspaper Third-Team All-State player, a Sports Connection First-Team All-State pick, and a two-time all-district athlete. He was also a three-time state track qualifier and participated in baseball.
Brandon Roberts is from Oskaloosa and attends Oskaloosa HS. The 6-0, 195-pound linebacker was an all-district athlete, team Defensive MVP, and team captain.
Zach Meyers is from Oskaloosa and attends Oskaloosa HS. The 5-10, 185-pound linebacker was an all-district athlete and team captain.
Chris Spurgeon is from Oskaloosa and attends Oskaloosa HS. The 6-3, 280-pound defensive lineman was a team captain.
Kaden Morgan is from Des Moines and attends Lincoln HS.
Tyler Goble is from Des Moines and attends Lincoln HS.
Mark Strawhacker is from Fort Madison and attends Fort Madison HS. The 5-11, 270-pound offensive lineman was a first-team all-conference athlete.
Sam Tvedt is from Oskaloosa and attends Pella Christian HS. The 5-10, 170-pound running back was a First-Team, Second-Team, and Third-Team All-State pick as well as a two-time all-district selection.

Austin Reed is from O’Fallon, Mo. and attends Fort Zumwalt HS. The 6-0, 190-pound linebacker was a second-team all-conference athlete.
Ashford Smith is from Houston, Texas and attends Klein Forest HS. The 5-11, 180-pound wide receiver was an all-district athlete who earned Team MVP honors.
Zachariah Kasinger is from Trenton, Mo. and attends Trenton HS. The 6-1, 245-pound offensive lineman was an All-State selection, a first-team all-district athlete, 2010 OL of the Year, three-year varsity letterwinner, and team captain.
Brandon Owen is from Hutchinson, Kan. and attends Nickerson HS. The 6-0, 180-pound quarterback was a second-team all-league pick and an honorable-mention all-area athlete.
Mike Fontenot is from Lake Charles La. and attends LaGrange HS. The 6-1, 230-pound defensive lineman was an all-district athlete.
Reagan Hackett is from Sandy, Utah and attends Highland HS. The 5-11, 245-pound offensive lineman was an honorable-mention all-region athlete.
Judson Humphries is from Phenix City, Ala. and attends Glenwood HS. The 5-9, 185-pound fullback was an AISA East All-Star athlete.
Eric Saunders is from Tucson, Ariz. and attends Rincon HS.
Jake Adams is from Park City, Utah and attends Park City HS. The 6-3, 255-pound tight end was a First-Team All-State selection, Region X Player of the Year, two-time first-team all-region athlete, and a one-time second-team all-region athlete.
Alex Kops is from Woodstock, Ga. and attends Woodstock HS. The 6-1, 180-pound defensive back was a two time all-county athlete, a team captain, and a Coaches Award recipient.
Kevin Bolak is from Canton, Ga. and attends Woodstock HS. The 5-10, 175-pound quarterback was a two-time all-county athlete, a team captain, a two-time Player of the Week, and a Coaches Award recipient.
Josiah Brown is from Aptos, Calif. and attends Aptos HS. The 6-0, 180-pound quarterback was a first-team all-league and all-county athlete.
Jake Davis is from Rock Island, Ill. and attends Rock Island HS. The 6-2, 275-pound offensive lineman was a two-time all-metro player, a two-time all-conference athlete, and a team captain.
J.J. Lewis is from Florence, Fla. and attends Wilson HS.
Daniel Swartz is from Longmont, Colo. and attends Skyline HS. The 6-4, 220-pound defensive end was a First-Team All-State player and a two-time first-team all-conference athlete.
”This class as a whole may be the best we have had,” Hafner said. “Top to bottom, we feel that we have filled needs at every position and have added quality depth. How good this class is won’t be determined for a couple of years, but the potential of this class is limitless.”
Penn was 10-1 (6-1 Midwest League) last fall and finished the regular season ranked #13 in the NAIA. The team shared the MWL crown for its first league title since 1976 and its fifth overall.
