Duane Stier

October 04, 1947 – March 01, 2011
Grinnell, Iowa

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Duane was born on October 4, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa to Leo and Iris Shepley Stier. He graduated from Newton High School and attended some college while serving with the Navy. He served stateside as an electronics repair technician and traveled throughout the United States.

On January 19, 1976, he married Joyce Rice in Clarinda, Iowa. They were blessed with four daughters; Leah, Cari, Jana and Rose. He worked at Maytag until he retired. Duane enjoyed fishing, hunting and just being outdoors. He spent a great deal of time in the garden, usually planting too much corn. Duane was always “tinkering” with something, whether it needed fixing or not. His greatest love was his family and every moment spent with them.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce, of Grinnell, his daughters, Leah (Chad) Smutzer of Rochester, Minnesota, Jana (Joel) Snodgrass of Kellogg and Rose Stier of Grinnell, four grandsons, Isaac and Ethan Smutzer, Kaleb and Korbin Stier, his brother, Danny (Sue) Stier of Newton, his sisters, Shirley (Darrell) Arrowood of Newton, Janet (Stan) Astelle of Grinnell and Vicki (Wayne) Prusha of Beebe, Arkansas and several cherished family and friends. Duane was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Cari Lynn Stier, in infancy.

Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or to the Duane D. Stier Memorial Fund to benefit his grandsons’ college funds.
