Oskaloosa. Glen Fisher, 87, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, (his 87th birthday) at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born March 1, 1924, north of Keswick, Iowa, the son of George C. and Jeannie Belle Moore Fisher. On August 13, 1944, he was united in marriage to Pauline W. Visser in Monroe County, Iowa, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before Pauline died December 24, 2010. He joined the Seabees in 1944, and served in Rhode Island and also in Oakwood, California. After the service, they returned home and spent the next thirteen years farming, first near Gibson, and the last five years near Bussey. In 1956, he began working at PAMCO Manufacturing as plant superintendent until 1977 when he left to join his son, Daryl, at Fisher Auto Sales until retiring, however he spent every morning of his retirement, when he was in town, checking in with Daryl’s stores to see if there was anything they needed him to do. Glen and Pauline enjoyed many years of camping and traveling. They spent their winters in Mission, Texas along with many of their camping friends. They were members of the Mahaska Traveling Chiefs Camping Club and the American Legion.
His family includes his two sons: Gary Fisher of Mena, Arkansas and Daryl (& Debbie) Fisher of Cape Coral, Florida; two grandchildren: Shawn (& Paul) McCabe of Atlanta, Georgia and Chad (& Olivia) Fisher of Fort Collins, Colorado; two great granddaughters: Kate and Ella McCabe; a brother: George (& Geraldine) Fisher of Oskaloosa.
In addition to his wife, Glen was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leo; and three sisters: Lois, Bessie, and Mildred.
A memorial service for Glen Fisher will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Gilbert Visser officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the funeral chapel immediately after the memorial service. As was Glen\’s wish his body has been cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Friday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel Friday from 5 — 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Children\’s Cancer Connection.
