OSKALOOSA, Iowa – Oskaloosa High School student Makenzie Banicky has received one of Iowa’s top honors for high school musicians, earning a spot in the 2026 Iowa All-State Choir.

Banicky earned her spot after a competitive audition on Saturday, October 24th.

The Iowa All-State Music Festival gathers many of the state’s most talented high school musicians. To join the All-State Choir, Band, or Orchestra, students must pass a challenging audition process.

Oskaloosa High School’s choir director shared the news of Banicky’s selection, calling it the highest honor for a choral student in Iowa and noting how tough the auditions are.

Banicky will join other chosen students at the 80th Iowa All-State Music Festival, which will take place from November 19th to 21st at Iowa State University in Ames.

The festival ends with a concert at Hilton Coliseum on Saturday, November 21st, where the All-State ensembles will perform.

Banicky’s selection highlights her musical talent and the hard work it took to compete with students from all over Iowa.

Oskaloosa High School encourages students, staff, and community members to congratulate Banicky on her achievement.
