San Sets Oskaloosa Middle School Mark in Season Opener at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD — Chessa San delivered a record-setting performance as the Oskaloosa Middle School cross country teams opened their season at Fairfield.

San finished third overall in the girls’ race, covering the nearly two-mile course in 13:47. According to coach Betsy Luck, that was the fastest time an Oskaloosa runner has posted in the Fairfield middle school girls’ race.

San was one of two Indians to finish among the top 25. Lydia Netland placed 21st in 15:18, moving into sixth place on Oskaloosa’s top 10 list for the Fairfield middle school girls race.

Returning eighth-graders Lauryn Koehler and Alaina Burgey also improved on their previous performances, each setting a personal best on the course. Oskaloosa finished fifth in the girls large-class standings.

The Oskaloosa boys earned a third-place team finish, led by Kinnick Reisetter’s 10th-place effort.

Reisetter crossed the finish line in 12:48, putting him fifth on Oskaloosa’s top 10 list for the Fairfield middle school boys race. Ryan Comfort followed in 18th place with a time of 13:24, which ranks 10th on that list.

Douglas Lappin, Griffin Stock and Tayven Wyatt rounded out the Indians’ top five runners.

Luck reported that every returning eighth-grade boy who competed at Fairfield last year improved his time on the course this season.

The coaching staff was pleased with the effort throughout the lineup in the opening meet. Luck said runners are learning how to push through the discomfort of racing and continue competing all the way to the finish.

Oskaloosa returns to action Tuesday at Edmundson Park for its home invitational. The middle school girls race begins at 4:15 p.m., followed by the middle school boys at 4:40 p.m. Community members are encouraged to come out and support the middle school and high school teams.
